Product description
Antica Formula Carpano Vermouth is an exceptional Italian vermouth with a rich history and complex flavor profile, considered one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world. Created in 1786 in Turin by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, who was the first to combine white wine with a mixture of herbs and alcohol to create modern vermouth. The original recipe is preserved today thanks to the family company Fratelli Branca Distillerie, whose motto "Novare Serbando" ("Innovation through preservation") emphasizes the combination of tradition and modernity.
The production process for Antica Formula Carpano Vermouth begins with a careful selection of white wines from the Romagna, Aqulia and Sicily regions, which are processed within 24 hours of harvest to preserve freshness and avoid oxidation. Then, a secret blend of botanicals is prepared, including vanilla from Madagascar and saffron from Iran. The ingredients undergo two extraction methods: hot infusion, which brings out the intense aromas, and cold extraction for subtle notes, lasting up to several months in total. After the extraction stage, burnt sugar is added to the mixture, which harmonizes the flavors and adds depth. The finished vermouth matures in steel tanks and is filtered to maintain clarity before bottling. The process is completed by bottling in characteristic, numbered bottles that reference the 18th-century design, with the full recipe known to only three people in the world. The whole combines precision, tradition and innovation, guaranteeing a unique flavor profile.
It works great over ice with a slice of orange as an aperitif or digestif, in cocktails and desserts.
The name Vermouth comes from the German word "Wermuth" (wormwood), which Carpano used, inspired by German poetry and the tradition of flavoring with this herb.
