Product description
The story of Varela Hermanos S.A. and Abuelo rum dates back to 1908, when a Spanish immigrant, Don José Varela Blanco, started the first San Isidro sugar factory in the Panama town of Pesé.
Distillation of spirit from fermented sugar cane juice commenced there in 1936. The Abuelo brand was launched in 1976, when a new, modern spirit distillation line, together with modern, stainless steel distillation column system, was installed there. Today Varela Hermanos S.A. is one of the leading spirits manufacturers in Panama. It is also one of the very few that run their own sugar cane plantations.
Abuelo XV Napoleon Cask Finish spent 15 years maturing in oak casks. The final stage of that maturation took place in barrels that previously held Napoleon brandy. It is one of three expressions of the rum that underwent such additional maturation (so-called wood finishing). Its bouquet offers notes of dried fruits, raisins, vanilla, leather, oak, cocoa and a hint of brandy.
