Product description
'Glen Mhor' translates from the Gaelic to 'Great Gorge' and probably refers to the valley in which the famous Loch Ness lies.
Construction of the distillery began in 1892 by John Birnie (manager of Glen Albyn Distillery) with support from Charles Mackinlay, and distillation began two years later. From 1920 to 1972 Glen Mhor and Glen Albyn operated under the ownership of Mackinlay & Birnie Ltd, its assets being taken over by DCL in 1972. Glen Mhor ceased operations in 1983, and a supermarket and car park were soon built in its place. Gordon & MacPhail have been bottling Glen Mhor single malt for years, and the 1980 Vintage presented here was added to the Rare Vintage series in 2011. The whisky spent over 30 years in refill sherry hogshead casks.
