Product description
The Zacapa brand was founded in 1976 by the Botran family.
The Zacapa Distillery is located in Tulula, Guatemala, in the Quetzaltenango Highlands, at an altitude of 2,330 meters above sea level. This is also where Zacapa rum matures in warehouses. The altitude and lower temperatures allow for slower and more careful maturation. Produced in “La casa por encima de las Nubes” (The House Above the Clouds), the rum is not made from molasses, but from concentrated first-pressed cane juice, sometimes called cane honey. During fermentation, a strain of yeast obtained from pineapples is used, which helps to obtain the characteristic set of aromas of Zacapa rum. Zacapa rums are traditionally matured in the solera system, in barrels made of new American oak, bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry barrels.
Ron Zacapa Centenario XO is an exclusive super premium rum, blended from distillates matured in oak barrels in the solera system from 6 to 25 years, then subjected to additional maturation in cognac barrels. Awarded, among others, with a platinum award in the super premium category at the International Rum Festival in 2002.
