Product description
Amaretto Disaronno Originale is one of the most recognizable Italian liqueurs with a characteristic almond flavor, although contrary to popular belief, it is not made from almonds, but from apricot kernels.
The history of Amaretto Disaronno dates back to the Renaissance, according to legend, in 1525 in Saronna (a city in Lombardy, Italy) the painter Bernardino Luini was asked to paint a fresco in a local church. He chose a young widow as a model, who in gratitude for posing gave him a liqueur of her own production, based on apricot kernels and herbs. This drink became the prototype of today's Disaronno. The recipe for the liqueur was passed down from generation to generation. In 1900, the Reina family, who owned the original recipe, began commercial production of the drink under the name "Amaretto di Saronno". In 1947, the name was changed to Disaronno Originale to emphasize the uniqueness and tradition of the product.
Amaretto Disaronno Originale's main ingredient is apricot kernels, but also ingredients such as herbs, spices and roots, the exact composition of which remains a secret. All ingredients are subjected to a maceration process to release their aromas and flavors. After extraction, the liquid is mixed with alcohol, sugar and water to obtain the right consistency and flavor. The liqueur is subjected to a maturation process, then filtered. The finished liqueur is bottled in hand-numbered bottles, designed in 1950 by graphic artists from Milan.
