The Feathery blended malt debuted in 2014 as part of Spencerfield Spirits’ offering. The company was founded in 2005 by former Whyte & Mackay director Alex Nicol after acquiring the rights to Pig’s Nose and Sheep Dip whiskies.
The Feathery blended malt was created with the help of Whyte & Mackay blender Richard Paterson. The whisky is named after a 17th century golf ball made from feathers, bird skin and tar. Its formula features three single malts – Tamdhu, Glengoyne and GlenDronach, all aged exclusively in sherry casks for 8 to 10 years. In September 2016, the assets of Spencerfield Spirits were purchased by Ian Macleod Distillers for an undisclosed sum.
