The Balvenie French Oak is an energizing single malt whisky finished in wine casks from French wineries in the Charantes region. Pineau des Charantes is a type of fortified wine made from unfermented grape juice, to which cognac is added. The Pineau des Charantes is then subjected to maturation. Lorne Cousin, Brand Ambassador of The Balvenie of the USA suggested MBE to David C.Stewart to investigate these barrels after he and his family took a trip to Charantes, where they drink Pineau as an aperitif. Pineua des Charantes is similar to cognac in terms of production and flavor, helping to highlight the sweet and fruity accents in The Balvenie.
