Redbreast (English. russet) is an excellent Irish single pot still whiskey introduced in the 1930s. last century by the company W. & A. Gilbey.
Its unusual name is most likely the idea of the company's president, a passionate ornithologist. Whiskey was supplied by Dublin-based Jameson Bow Street Distillery, and distribution was handled by the aforementioned W. & A. Gilbey. In 1986, the brand passed into the ownership of Irish Distillers and returned to the market five years later. It is now in the portfolio of Pernod Ricard, and the whiskey is supplied by Midleton Distillery. Redbreast 15 years old debuted in 2010 compiled from distillates aged in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46% alcohol without cold filtration.
Aroma
fresh, mildly spicy, handful of fresh herbs, toffee, caramel, apples, figs, dates, orange peel, rose water, hay and wax notes.
TASTE
slightly oily, casaba melon, apples, apricots, orange peel, vanilla, milk chocolate, honey, banana plantain, white pepper and oak.
FINISH
quite long, fruity and spicy, with notes of nectarines, apples, licorice banana, pepper and oak.
