Chivas 13

Chivas Regal Extra 13 Year Old
Oloroso Sherry / 40%

In the early spring of 2020, the company Chivas Bros. announced the Chivas Extra 13 Collection series consisting of four 13-year-old blends, in the creation of which Sandy Hyslop, Chivas' master blender, used four unique types of barrels: Oloroso sherry, American rye whiskey, rum and tequila. The collection is inspired by the company's founders, brothers James and John Chivas, importers of rums, oriental spices and foodstuffs, and producers of their own blended whisky. The company was based in Aberdeen, at 13 King Street. The edition presented here is the jewel in the crown of the new collection, a whisky "selectively matured in Oloroso sherry casks," which we understand to mean that a portion of each batch was finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks.

Chivas Regal XV 15 Year / 40%

Chivas Regal is the most popular blended whisky of the premium segment, with annual sales of more than 4.2 million cases.

The latter was put together from distillates aged for no less than 15 years, some of which were finished in cognac barrels from the Grande Champagne district. The name of the whisky itself is somewhat reminiscent of cognac, whose producers generally use designations such as VS or XO instead of the usual age designation. Chivas XV is presented in two types of bottles, a luxurious gold one, intended for formal occasions, and a standard transparent one, offered in a gold carton.

Aroma

rich and sweet, strong tones of stewed red apples, homemade orange jam, honey, cinnamon and juicy sultanas

TASTE

unbelievably mild, fruity, cooked pears, milky fudge and caramel toffee forming a velvety nectar for the mouth

FINISH

harmoniously balanced with notes of vanilla

Chivas Regal 18 Year Old
Gold Signature / 40%

Chivas Regal is, next to Johnnie Walker Black Label, the most popular blended Scotch whisky of the premium sector (annual sales of over 4 million cases).

It debuted on the market in 1909, 16 years after the last of the Chivas family died and two employees took over the company. The 18-year-old version is the creation of Colin Scott, Chivas' master buyer, from 1997, when the rights to the brand were held by the Canadian conglomerate Seagram (since 2001 owned by Pernod Ricard). Since the early 1950s, the core of the Chivas formula has been Strathisla; other key malts include Longmorn, Tormore, Braeval and Glen Keith. In 2014, Chivas Regal 18 years old won the title of best blended Scotch whisky at the annual International Wine & Spirits Competition.
