CAORUNN GIN BLOOD ORANGE
Caorunn Gin blood orange / 41.8%
Caorunn Gin is produced in Speyside at Balmenach Distillery.
Caorunn joined the range in 2009. Balmenach brings in triple-distilled neutral alcohol; it goes into an evaporator, and from there, in the form of steam, into a copper chamber. There, in turn, are several shelves with botanicals laid out, which are exposed to alcoholic steam to extract the ingredients they contain. After the process, the distillate is diluted with local water to an alcohol content of 41.8%. The gin formula lists juniper berries, coriander seeds, lemon and orange peel, angelica root, cassia bark, and a few local ingredients - bog myrtle, heather, milkweed leaves, Coul Blush apples, and rowan berries (Caorunn means rowan in Gaelic). The Bloody Orange edition is enriched with an infusion of blood orange, and chili to create a crisp, refreshing and citrusy gin.
