In the spring of 2019, Balvenie Distillery announced a new series of whiskeys, the Balvenie Stories Collection. Each of the three editions that make it up is accompanied by a story related to the history of the distillery and its employees.
The Week of Peat, presented here, the second part of the triptych and twin sister to Balvenie Peat Week, which debuted in the fall of 2017, recalls Ian Millar, former manager of the distillery. In 2001, he made a short trip to the island of Islay and upon his return ordered a batch of peat (the plant malts its own barley). A year later, Balvenie Distillery began distilling from malt with a phenol compound concentration of 30ppm. Balvenie The Week of Peat is aged in American oak barrels for 14 years and bottled at an alcohol content of 48.3%.
