The whisky was advertised as "The Scotch" as it was a true rarity for the time, with no rival on the market. The original whisky formula listed, as the Scotch Whisky Association will put it, "Ballantine's Magnificent Seven" (Ballantine's Magnificent Seven). Ballantine's whisky is currently in the portfolio of Chivas Bros., pernod Ricard subsidiaries.

Ballantine has been the second-best selling Scotch whisky for years, closing 2018 with 7.4 million bottles. Its current owner is Chivas Bros., a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard conglomerate.
