The history of the Angostura brand begins in 1824, when a German doctor in the Venezuelan town of the same name set about perfecting his blends based on aromatic herbs.

His goal was to find a remedy for the stomach ailments of Venezuelan army soldiers. Soon after, Dr. Johann Siegert left the army and took up the production of his herbal tinctures. Over time, his company became an official supplier to the royal courts of Prussia, Spain and Britain. Today Angostura is a world-renowned brand of herbal tinctures and high-end Caribbean rums. Contrary to a rather widely held belief, the bark of the Angostura trifolata tree is not used in the production of Angostura liquors and rums, and the brand name comes from the town where it all began, renamed over time as Ciudad Bolivar. Amaro di Angostura is an herbal amaro liqueur made from the famous Angostura herbs. Great to eat with ice or as an addition to cocktails. It offers accents of spice (cinnamon), dark chocolate, herbs and licorice.
