Product description
In autumn 2023, Glen Scotia Distillery has announced a new series, The Icons of Campbeltown.
It is to consist of five whiskies released in annual limited editions. The series is dedicated to the local community, and is inspired by the 14th century cross standing near the old dock in the square, which is an iconic meeting place for the residents of Campbeltown. One of the decorative elements of the cross is a mermaid, the patron saint of the first edition of the series. It is a 12-year-old "un-peated" whisky originally aged in bourbon barrels, then finished in Palo Cortado sherry barrels. The Mermaid is bottled at cask strength (54.1% abv), natural color and without chill filtration, and the graphic page is the work of Joel Holtzman, previously collaborating with such giants as Marvel and Lucasfilm.
Nose: sea breeze and seaweed, damp fishing nets, sea salt, lemon peel, green apples, nut shells, white pepper, a touch of caramel and vanilla.
Palate: salted caramel, honey, lemon and orange peel, dried apples, roasted peanuts, white pepper, a touch of ginger and a trace of leather.
Finish: medium long, with notes of salted nuts, white pepper, fennel, lemon peel, oak and sea breeze.
