Mezan rums nearly always come from a single distillery, which makes them a perfect example of the distillery style for a given location. They never contain any additives, are not additionally sweetened, coloured or chill-filtered. They are always matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels.
Mezan Belize 2008 is a rum manufactured at a distillery located in the town of Belmopan in Belize. Molasses from local sugar cane is naturally fermented and then distilled in a triple column continuous still. The spirit matured in heavily charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels, initially for 6 years in the tropics, and then another 4 years after being transferred to Europe. Bottled in a most pure form in 2018 – with no sugar added, no colouring, no chill-filtration, only reduced to 46% vol. The edition was limited to 5500 individually numbered bottles. Its bouquet offers notes of oak, cedar, vanilla, tropical fruits, hazelnuts and burnt butter. On the palate there will be notes of butterscotch, spices and tropical fruits.
