Product description
Three Ships is a brand of whisky produced by the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, South Africa.
Captain Sedgwick settled in Cape Town in 1859 and founded a company importing spirits and tobacco. In 1886, the company bought a small local distillery and began producing brandy. By the 1970s, it was producing malt and grain distillates, which were sold exclusively to the local market, often blended with Scotch whisky. Since 2000, the distillery has been owned by Distell Group, the same group that acquired Burn Stewart Distillers in 2012, along with the Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory distilleries and the Black Bottle blended whisky. The 12-year-old Master Distiller's Private Collection presented here is the first single malt from this distillery intended for the European market. The whisky was distilled in 2007 from Scottish malt with a phenol concentration of 30ppm, aged in first (10%) and refill (90%) American oak barrels, and bottled with its natural colour and without chill filtration in 2020.
