Arran Port Cask Finish was introduced in 2010 as part of the distillery core range. After initially maturing in traditional oak casks for approximately eight years the whisky is finished in a selection of Port casks sourced from an artisan producer of this iconic Portuguese fortified wine. It is bottled of natural color, without chill-filtration at 50% abv. In the fall of 2019 Arran single malt got a new modern look, it is being now presented in bespoke bottles with new labels and gift tubes but according to the company statement the whisky inside the bottle remains unchanged. A range of Arran Wood Finishes includes Amarone, Sauternes and Port.
Nose: buttered toast, butterscotch, orange peel, strawberries, apples, honeydew melon, hazelnuts, hints of potpourri, hay and oak.
Palate: sweet, sugar syrup, salted caramel, chocolate-coated hazelnuts, mixed berries marmalade, almond croissants and little honey.
Finish: fairly long, with sweet notes of Port, caramel, vanilla, honey, chocolate, cherries and oranges.
