The Willetts came to Maryland in the late 17th century and a century later moved to Nelson County, Kentucky, where John David Willett became a partner and master distiller of the Moore, Willett & Frenke distillery.
Lambret Willett purchased a farm near Bardstown and, with his son Thompson, began distilling in 1935. The company went bankrupt in the late 1970s and was taken over by Thompson's son-in-law, Even Kulsveen. He changed its name to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, stopped distilling, and began operating as a whiskey publisher. In 2012, after years of renovation and adaptation, Kulsveen resumed distilling and returned to its original name. The Willett Pot Still Reserve presented here debuted in 2008, and it is said that the Heaven Hill Distillery located next door still has a large share in the final product.
Nose: sweet, honey, vanilla, maple syrup, buttered popcorn, bananas, black cherries, pecan pie, orange peel and oak.
Taste : fruity and nutty, vanilla, caramel, honey-roasted nuts, oranges, notes of pepper and cinnamon and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: medium long and soft, with notes of caramel, vanilla, citrus, pepper and oak.
