Auchentoshan is the only Scottish Distillery, which consequently employs triple distillation process (a fraction of Springbank spirit, as well as BenRiach are also distilled three times).
The distillery was founded in 1823 on the outskirts of Glasgow and is currently owned by Beam Suntory. Auchentoshan 12 years old was introduced in 2008 replacing 10 years old expression in the core range; it is currently marketed as “Delicate & Layered”. Auchentoshan 12 years old is a vatting of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Oloroso sherry casks (with majority of the former) and bottled at 40% abv.
Nose: smooth, floral and fruity, sweet cereals with honey, vanilla, caramel, bananas, orange peel, lemon grass and hints of potpourri.
Palate: light and smooth with hints of sherry, vanilla, honey, oranges, tangerines, sugared nuts, dash of cinnamon and oak.
Finish: medium long and slightly dry, with notes of mixed nuts, white pepper, hints of vanilla and ginger and oak.
