Product description
The new Macallan Distillery was commissioned in the fall of 2017 and opened to public in the summer of 2018. The state of the art distillery took six years of planning and a price tag of approximately £140 million.
It is equipped with 36 stills (12 wash stills ad 24 spirit stills) capable of producing 15 million liters of spirit per annum. The old distillery has been mothballed, ready to be used when needed. Macallan 12 years old aged in sherry casks, the classic expression from the distillery, has been part of the core range for decades. Here we have the latest version of that expression bottled at 40% abv. Macallan is currently the third most popular single malt in the world, behind Glenfiddich and Glenlivet, with 907,000 cases sold globally (2017).
Nose: distinctive sherry notes, apple blossom, sultanas, vanilla, milk chocolate, plums, almonds, golden syrup, honey, toffee and hint of oak.
Palate: smooth, raisins, dried apricots and figs, black cherries, orange marmalade, caramel, milk chocolate, hints of leather and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of dried fruit, cocoa powder, orange peel, dash of pepper and sherried oak.
