Label 5 is a blended Scotch whisky from the portfolio of the French company La Martiniquaise.
It debuted in 1969 and currently (2019) holds the tenth position on the list of the most popular Scotch whiskies with annual global sales of 2.7 million cases. The main malt component of Label 5 is Glen Moray, in 2008 La Martiniquaise bought Glen Moray Distillery from Glenmorangie plc and in a few years doubled its production potential. Grain whisky is supplied by its own Starlaw Distillery (also called Glen Turner Distillery) built in 2010 in West Lothian. In relation to the standard Label 5 Classic Black, the Premium Black presented here is combined with a higher content of malt whisky aged longer than the statutory minimum. Label 5 Blended Premium Black is a higher shelf in the Label 5 portfolio, aimed at lovers of more refined blended whiskies. A blend of single malt, mainly from Speyside and the Highlands, and grain whisky. It is distinguished by a larger proportion of whisky matured in sherry casks than in bourbon casks.
