In 1995 Jim Beam Distillers celebrated its 200th Anniversary. In 1795 Jacob Beam, German immigrant and founder of the family of distillers sold his first whisky, Old Jake Sour Mash.
The current standard Jim Beam mashbill is most likely composed (the company does not share production details) of 75% corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley. The Anniversary bourbon was aged for 75 months (or over six years), bottled art 47,5% abv and presented in old-fashioned commemorative bottle. Today Jim Beam bourbon is an undisputed leader in its category with annual sales of 10,4 million cases (2019). It outsells its closest rival, Heaven Hill almost four to one.
Nose: cherries, plums, vanilla, caramel, honeyed cereals, orange peel, cinnamon, allspice, cedar cigar box and charred oak.
Palate: smooth, buttered popcorn, caramel, vanilla, toffee, raisins, orange marmalade, white pepper, cinnamon and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, orange peel, dash of cinnamon and oak.
