Aultmore (“Big Burn” in Gaelic) is one of a lesser-known Scottish distilleries.
It was founded in 1896 and just 3 years later fell victim to Pattison’s crash. Since 1923 is owned by John Dewar & Sons and supplies malt to Dewar’s blends. (John Dewar & Sons has been acquired by Bacardi Ltd. in 1998). Aultmore was one of the first distilleries to treat its waste so that it could be used as cattle feed. This official bottling of Aultmore was launched in 2004 and discontinued 10 years later.
Nose: light and fresh, combination of garden herbs, white fruit, dry flower petals, spice and distant peat smoke.
Palate: smooth, breakfast cereals, citrus, pepper, herbs and oak.
Finish: medium long, dry, malty and oaky.
