Product description
Wm Grant & Sons is one of the few companies that started out as a distiller and then made a fortune as a producer of blended whisky.
William Grant began distilling at Glenfiddich in 1887, built Balvenie in 1892, and joined the blenders a few years later with Grant's Standfast, in which he used the clan's battle cry, "Stand fast Craigellachie!", roughly meaning "We stand together, Craigellachie!" In 1963, the company built its own grain distillery, Girvan in Ayrshire, which, after several upgrades, can produce 120 million litres of spirit a year. In 2018, Grant's whisky sold 4.6 million cases, putting it in third place behind Johnnie Walker and Ballantine's.
The Grant's Stand Fast presented here dates back to the 1970s, in our opinion. At that time, the Grant's blend formula listed around 40 ingredients; in addition to Glenfiddich and Balvenie, the main ingredients were Ardmore, Craigellachie, Glen Garioch and, to a lesser extent, Laphroaig. The malt whisky content of the blend was over 35% at that time.
