John Distilleries Ltd is one of the four major players in the Indian alcoholic beverage market. The company was founded in 1992 by Paul P. John, the son of a wealthy grower, producer and distributor of alcoholic beverages.
John Distilleries currently owns three distilleries and eighteen facilities blending and processing its own spirits. The company's biggest market hit is the Original Choice blended whisky produced with the use of a sugar molasses distillate and recording sales of over 10 million cases per year. In 2008, the company began producing single malt whisky in one pair of stills, another is to be installed in spring 2017. The Edited version is distilled from 80% unpeated malt and 20% peated malt; it debuted in 2013.
Nose: grassy and spicy, subtle smoky notes, forest floor, hay, quince jelly, coriander, allspice, coffee beans, roasted nuts and some charred oak.
Taste : pleasantly balanced, sweet, spicy and smoky, caramel, toffee, ginger, nutmeg, traces of licorice and aniseed and a hint of peat smoke in the background.
Finish : medium long, vanilla, caramel, licorice and aniseed wrapped in delicate peat smoke.
