Product description
Ambassador is an almost forgotten blended whisky brand originally from the portfolio of Taylor & Ferguson Ltd, a company founded in 1820 in Glasgow.
In 1931, it began producing blended whisky in close cooperation with Bloch Brothers Ltd, then owners of the Scapa and Glen Scotia distilleries; the companies soon merged. In 1954, both companies and all their assets, including the Ambassador blend, were acquired by the Canadian concern Hiram Walker & Sons. Taylor & Ferguson operated as a subsidiary of Hiram Walker at the time and bottled Ambassador whisky mainly for the American market. The brand's advertising slogan was something like "The Smoothest Scotch Whisky" and while it enjoyed considerable popularity overseas, it remained virtually unknown on other continents. Little is known about the formula for this blend, most likely its main ingredients were Scapa and Glen Scotia, as Taylor & Ferguson operated these distilleries at the time. Ambassador whisky has not been produced for over 20 years and occasionally appears at auction. In its heyday it was available in several versions: De Luxe, 8 years old, 12 years old and 25 years old.
