Product description
The existence of the Mount Gay plantation apparently can be traced back to 1493.
However, rum production commenced there only in 1703. Initially, it was named Mount Gilboa, but the name was changed by the then owner, sir Cumberbatch Sober, in 1801 to commemorate the death of the estate administrator, sir John Gay Alleyne. In the 19th and 20th century the estate changed owners several times, only to become a part of the Rémy Cointreau empire in 1989. That meant including Mount Gay products in the company’s international distribution chain, which eventually resulted in grown popularity and sales of Mount Gay rums.
Mount Gay eclipse was named after two astronomical events of 1910 – the passing of the Halley’s comet and the eclipse of the sun. It is a double distilled rum, made from molasses, and matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels for up to 2 years.
