Three new Glenlivets, available not only at the distillery

With the return of normalcy to the realm of distillery tourism in Scotland, whisky producers are outdoing themselves in creating offers designed to attract as many visitors as possible to their establishments. Glenlivet Distillery, one of the largest producers of Scotch malt whisky, used the pandemic time to turn its tourist section into a completely new experience. Last July, the new Visitor Centre debuted, masterfully combining a commitment to tradition with modern technology and today's visitor expectations.

Distilleries owned by Pernod Ricard - m.in. Glenlivet, but also Aberlour, Strathisla and a few others - have for years now had special editions of the whiskeys they produce, available only in stores on the distillery's premises. These are liquors bottled as cask strength, in limited editions, not subject to cold filtering or caramel coloring.

These days announced the release of up to three new Glenlivet editions for sale in the distillery's store. This time, however, the purchase option has been expanded to include availability in the online store. The three new editions are whiskies from single casks (single cask), bottled in 0.5-liter bottles, intended to represent, according to the producer, not only the pioneering style of the distillery from which they come, but also the spirit of the Livet River Valley, Scotland's most famous mountain valley. And certainly the most famous among whisky lovers.

The three new editions are:

The Glenlivet Distillery Reserve Collection 10yo, distilled May 2011, bottled March 2022, matured in single sherry butt cask, first-fill. Edition limited to 888 500 ml bottles of 59.1% vol whisky. The price of a single bottle is £70.

The Glenlivet Distillery Reserve Collection 14yo, distilled November 2007, bottled March 2022, matured in single sherry butt cask, first-fill. Edition limited to 828 500 ml bottles of 61.9% vol whisky. The price of a single bottle is £90.

The Glenlivet Distillery Reserve Collection 22yo, distilled June 1999, bottled March 2022, matured in a single American oak barrel, first-fill. Edition limited to 252 500 ml bottles of whisky at 52.1% vol. The price of a single bottle is £175.

All three editions are available for preorder online, so that their purchase can be enjoyed not only by guests of the distillery, but by Scotch whisky lovers around the world. Single cask editions are inherently something special and - while maintaining the so-called DNA of the distillery - can often even differ quite significantly in character from official standard editions.

Because of the high quality of the liquor produced here, Glenlivet, a name referring to the Livet River valley, has been used for many years by a whole range of distilleries as a kind of quality statement. It was used by distilleries located even many miles from the actual Livet Valley, a tributary of the River Spey. Among them were distilleries such as Macallan, Longmorn, Glen Moray, Glenburgie, and Strathisla. As a result of the lawsuit and the court's verdict, all other distilleries were only allowed to use "Glenlivet" as a suffix next to their own name, and the actual distillery, founded by John Smith in 1824, placed the prefix "the" before its name, indicating its uniqueness and uniqueness in that category.

The House of Whisky Online offers an unusually wide range of whiskies from the Glenlivet distillery, led by the latest single cask edition, bottled especially for us, the release of which we wrote about a month ago. The full range also includes independent editions, as well as liquors bottled many years ago, which have considerable collector value.
