Talisker Wilder Seas

Owned by Diageo, the Talisker distillery, until recently the only whisky maker on the Isle of Skye, is known for its commitment to environmental issues, mainly through its partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an ocean conservation organization. Not so long ago, exactly a year ago, Talisker released another whisky in collaboration with Parley, a whisky that is also the oldest edition in the distillery's portfolio, Talisker 44yo Forests of the Deep.
A few days ago, Diageo announced the release of another whisky, the creation of which is the result of a partnership with Parley, while providing financial support for the organization's activities and an unequivocal statement by the manufacturer on environmental issues. It's a whisky of interest also because of the type of maturation.
Talisker Wilder Seas is a beverage with Talisker's customary 48.6% strength, no age statement (NAS), the first whisky in the Talisker range to undergo final maturation in XO French oak cognac barrels.
Where in all this care for the environment? Well Talisker Wilder Seas was bottled in 100 percent recycled bottles. The label was abandoned in favor of ceramic decorations, and instead of a box, the company opted for a paper tag on the neck of the bottle. Pendant also made from entirely recycled paper. As calculated, in the case of this product, the measures described have reduced CO2 emissions by 82% in terms of bottle production, and by 77% in terms of total packaging.
What's more, from the sale of each bottle, £3 went to subsidize environmental initiatives undertaken by Parley for the Oceans. Their goal is to protect underwater seaweed "forests" off the coasts of Scotland, South Africa and Chile.
The new whisky from Talisker promises accents of fruit, malt, raisins, dates, dried figs, a whiff of seafood, wine and pipe tobacco with a hint of smoke in its aroma. On the palate you get a light saltiness, smoke and fruit, accompanied by raisins and figs, a slight pepperiness and another dose of smoke.
The cost of purchasing a single bottle is £75.
