Macallan invites you to New York
Distil Your World is a series of exclusive, limited-edition whiskeys offered by the Macallan distillery and taking consumers on a sensory journey to different corners of the world. There has already been London, and now it's time for New York.
The Macallan - Distil Your World New York is a limited edition, compiled from the contents of six American and European oak barrels, released in a thousand bottles. The edition is intended as a tribute to the artistic spirit of New York, its soaring architecture and the eclectic cuisine of the restaurants, bars, cafes and street food of the largest city in the United States. The whisky was prepared in collaboration with the Roca brothers, who run the El Celler de Can Roca restaurant, recognized twice as the best restaurant in the world, awarded three Michelin stars.
In accordance with a policy adopted years ago, Macallan does not provide any further information on this whisky - neither the age of the component distillates, nor the prior content of the casks used for the blending, nor their degree of wear and tear. What I do know is that the bottled whiskey has a strength of 49.5% vol., and in its bouquet offers notes of apples, toffee, peanuts, milk chocolate, fresh yeast cake, falling rain and cherry blossoms. On the palate we should find baked apples, raisins, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup, roasted wafers and salted pecans.
Along with the launch of the new whisky, a 30-minute video was also unveiled, available on YouTube, showing impressions of a visit by Polly Logan, who serves as The Macallan Whisky Maker, and Joan Roca to New York City for inspiration to create the whisky. The film features jazz trumpet legend Wynton Marsalis, as well as local street art artist Lady Pink.
Roca Brothers has also prepared a special menu inspired by their stay in New York, and its descriptions will be one of the excerpts from the book that comes with every bottle of The Macallan - Distil Your World New York, offered in an elegant white box. There will also be photos of New York, as well as a description of a whole series of inspirations, the final result of which became The Macallan whisky - Distil Your World New York.
The Macallan distillery has been a long-time producer of top-quality, luxury spirits, including the world's most expensive whisky (£1.5 million at auction) and the world's oldest whisky - The Macallan 81yo The Reach, released this February, 1940 vintage.
