Macallan Folio 7

From the Macallan distillery comes news of the release of another edition as part of the The Archival Series. This collection is based on memories of the brand's advertising campaigns from the 1970s., 80. i 90. of the last century, which made the products of a little-known distillery perched somewhere on the River Spey objects of desire for the greatest connoisseurs and collectors of Scotch whisky.
Macallan Folio 7 is the next installment in the series, created to commemorate the brand's 1984 advertising campaign. It featured an amusing story of a group of scientists visiting the Macallan distillery and drowning in delight at the Scotch whisky produced there, matured in sherry casks.
Macallan Folio 7 is a whisky in whose aroma we have a chance to find notes of dried fruits, baked apples, pears, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, chocolate, orange and oak. In the taste, on the other hand, we can expect accents of raisins, nuts, milk chocolate, orange peel, vanilla, baked fruit and delicate spices.
New whisky from one of the most famous distilleries in the Spey Valley will be available soon, first through a draw at the distillery's online store, at the distillery itself, and at select outlets in the global travel retail network, m.in. in stores at airports, ferries, etc. The retail price of a single bottle has been set at £350.
Macallan distillery is now one of the largest producers of Scotch malt whisky. After a spectacular expansion, actually building a new distillery from scratch, completed in 2017, its maximum capacity is 15 million liters of pure alcohol per year. Admired by most, shunned by a few, the new distillery cost the company an incredible £140 million. Its design posed quite a challenge to architects and engineers, and the floor structure is considered one of the most advanced achievements of one and the other. The new distillery came with alembics that are exact copies of the relatively small, squat firing apparatuses that have been the hallmark of Macallan distillate quality for years. Their shape and size are responsible for the heavy, fleshy spirit then subjected to maturation in oak barrels. In the case of Macallan, these used to be exclusively sherry casks, but the scale of production, following ever-increasing demand, forced a change in this part of the brand's production strategy. It simply turned out that there were not so many sherry barrels of adequate quality to meet demand.
The new distillery can be admired today as it rises above the valley of the River Spey. Although "rises" is perhaps not the right expression. The new Macallan is set into the surrounding hills, with its unusual roof covered with turf and grassy areas. You have to know which direction to look and what to look out for to actually spot it, traveling from Aberlour toward Rothes. Formally, the site is assigned to the village of Craigellachie, but it is located on the opposite side of the River Spey, a piece behind the famous bridge, designed by Thomas Telford and built between 1812 and 1815.
Macallan products are consistently popular among collectors, and one bottle of its 1926 whiskey broke the record for the price of a bottle of whiskey when it was auctioned for the incredible sum of £1.5 million.
At the House of Whisky Online you can find extremely a wide range of whiskies from the Macallan distillery, including such editions, which without hesitation could be considered an ornament of even the largest Scotch whisky collection. We invite you to visit.
