Glen Scotia 21yo

Glen Scotia 21yo

The Glen Scotia distillery's official range includes 18-year and 25-year editions. The gap between the two is to be filled by the 21-year-old version, which was announced to debut these days.

Glen Scotia 21yo is a whisky initially matured in Standard American Barrel refill and bourbon hogshead casks. It then went into first-fill oloroso sherry casks for six months. The whisky is to be released in annual batches, the first of which will be 2,500 bottles. The whisky is not cold-filtered and is bottled as a liquor with a strength of 46% vol.

According to the manufacturer, the bouquet of this whisky is supposed to offer sweet notes of oloroso, red apples with cloves, pepper, some perfume. In the taste, on the other hand, we should find baked red apples, raisins, cloves, aniseed, cinnamon, creamy vanilla, toffee and some seainess.

First batches of bottles Glen Scotia 21yo have already started to appear in specialist stores at a retail price of £265 apiece.

Glen Scotia Distillery is one of three whisky factories currently operating in the Campbeltown region, centered around the town of the same name, located on the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula. It is part of the Loch Lomond Group, which in addition to it includes the Loch Lomond distillery. Glen Scotia is a relatively small malt whisky maker, with a maximum production potential of about 800,000 liters of pure alcohol per year. This capacity was never reached by the distillery, and in 2021 only a little over 500,000 liters were produced. The production and marketing strategy adopted by the new owners has resulted in a significant increase in interest in Glen Scotia products, so that last year production volume jumped to 750,000 liters. The various editions of whisky produced here have won successive awards, and the distillery itself was hailed as distillery of the year in 2021.

Glen Scotia primarily produces low peated malt whisky, but occasionally production is supplemented with medium peated (23ppm) and high peated (55ppm) whisky. It was first released in 2006 and special peaty editions are bottled from time to time.

It can be assumed with a high degree of probability that the new Glen Scotia 21yo will soon also appear in the offer of the House of Whisky Online. In anticipation of it, we invite you to learn more about the our current Glen Scotia offer, in which, in addition to contemporary editions, you can find several old, limited editions, as well as independent offerings.
