In 2014, John Dewar & Sons, part of the Bacardi Group, announced The Last Great Malts programme , announcing new editions of single malts from five of the group's distilleries.
The Craigellachie offer listed four of them, of which the Special Reserve 19 years was intended exclusively for the Travel Retail chain . This whisky has a light sulphur note, which is the result of using heating oil in the malting process. The Craigellachie Distillery is equipped with two pairs of stills and produces about 4 million liters of alcohol per year. Most of it goes to Dewar's blends .
Aroma: rich, fruity, light nutty note, apples, pears, apricots, ginger, sulfur of a lit match, tires during heavy braking.
Palate: fruity, creamy malt, vanilla, lemon tart, pineapples, apples, unripe grapes, traces of cinnamon and ginger, burnt sulfur smoke.
Finish: long, initially fruity, soon becoming spicy with a hint of sulfur.
