Johnnie Walker XR debuted in 2010 and was a tribute to Sir Alexander Walker II, grandson of the founder of Johnnie Walker & Sons.
Alexander followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, devoting his life to perfecting the craft of blending whisky and growing the family business. In 1920, King George V knighted Alexander Walker II for services to the British Empire. The Johnnie Walker XR formula is based on Alexander’s handwritten notes. It features the rarest of the rare, such as Brora, aged for a minimum of 21 years.
Nose: rich black cherries, blackberries, bitter orange jam, toffee, honey, vanilla, hazelnut nougat, cedar cigar wrapper and a distant hint of smoke.
Taste: fruity with a herbal note, oranges, apricots, cherries, honey, dark chocolate, a bit of pepper and ginger and a pleasant bitterness of oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of caramel, dark chocolate, raisins, cherries, licorice and oak.
