Product description
Galliano liqueur debuted in 1896. It was created by Arturo Vaccari, a brandy producer and owner of a distillery in Livorno, Tuscany.
The original formula, developed with the Maraschi brothers, pioneers of infusion and maceration, listed over 30 botanical ingredients. The brand's patron is Giuseppe Galliano, hero of the First Italo-Abyssinian War (1894-1896). For 44 days, Galliano, along with a 2,000-strong unit, defended the Enda Yesus monastery against an 80,000-strong Abyssinian army. For his bravery, he was awarded the Silver Medal of Merit and promoted to lieutenant colonel. Even before prohibition, Galliano liqueur gained huge popularity in the United States, and in the 1970s led sales statistics in its category. In 1989, the rights to the brand were acquired by the French concern Rémy Cointreau, and since 2006 it has been in the portfolio of the Dutch company Lucas Bols.
Galliano l'Autentico's formula lists more than 30 ingredients—herbs, flowers, roots, barks, seeds, and spices, of which the company reveals only a few: Mediterranean and star anise, juniper, lavender, cinnamon, yarrow, and peppermint. Its yellow-gold color reflects the California Gold Rush. The International Bartenders Association has named it an official ingredient in four cocktails: Golden Dream, Harvey Wallbanger, Barracuda, and Yellow Bird. We also suggest serving it with ice after a hearty dinner.
