Product description
Giffard & Cie is a renowned producer of liqueurs and bar syrups based in Avrillé in western France. The company was founded in 1885 by Émile Giffard in nearby Angers.
Émile, a graduate of the Pharmacy Department at the University of Poitiers and the owner of a chemist's, experimented a lot with peppermint and in 1885, during a very hot year, he developed the formula for Menthe-Pastille, a liqueur suitable for serving both before and after a meal. The success of Menthe-Pastille was so great that it convinced Giffard to hang up his chemist's apron and buy his own distillery. Today, the fifth generation of the family runs the company, whose range has grown over the years to over a hundred products. Key positions are held by Émile's great-great-grandchildren, Bruno Giffard and his sister Edith.
The Watermelon Liqueur presented here is made by macerating Spanish watermelons. The taste is a combination of watermelon and cantaloupe with cotton candy and a drop of lemon juice. The producer recommends the Watermelon & Basil cocktail:
60ml gin;
30ml Watermelon Liqueur;
7 leaves of fresh basil;
1 slice of fresh watermelon.
