In 2002 William Grant & Sons introduced Glenfiddich Havana Reserve 21 years old finished in Cuban Rum Casks,
After 21 years of aging in ex-bourbon casks whisky was transferred to rum casks sourced from Cuba for additional 4 months. Despite pretty good reviews, Havana Reserve was banned from the US market due to trade embargo posted in 1960 on all Cuban products. Two years later the whisky was re-launched as Gran Reserva Cuban Rum Finish but the new name did not find approval of the US authorities.
Nose: rich, bananas, oranges, pears, milk chocolate, toffee, vanilla, walnuts, cinnamon, candied ginger and oak.
Palate: chocolate coated nuts, oranges, apples, pears, caramel, sweet coffee, cinnamon, candied ginger and dash of pepper.
Finish: pretty long, milk chocolate, cinnamon, orange peel and delicate herbal notes.
