The aroma features vanilla, caramel, and ripe tropical fruits, with hints of brown sugar, spices, and toasted oak. Over time, more dessert-like notes of toffee and cocoa also develop.
It has a full-bodied, warming flavor. Caramel, vanilla, and ripe banana intertwine with spices, delicate chocolate, and oak. The higher alcohol content adds depth to the overall profile, allowing the rum to maintain a good balance between sweetness and the more dry character of the barrel.
The finish is long and warm, with recurring notes toffee, vanilla, spices, and oak. Panama-Pacific 9 YO is best enjoyed on its own, but its intensity also makes it suitable for use in more distinctive classic cocktails.
