- Wine from terraced vineyards on the steep slopes of Dürnstein, where the stony soils give it a mineral character. It combines notes of citrus, herbs, and white pepper with a juicy acidity and a subtle saltiness. Perfect for seafood and fish.
Product description
Winery F. X. Pichler (Weingut F. X. Pichler) has been operating in the Wachau region of Austria and has been owned by the Pichler family for five generations. Franz Xaver (“F. X.") took over the assets in 1971., expanding it from its original few hectares to approximately 20 hectares of plantations today. The winery focuses exclusively on white grape varieties—primarily Grüner Veltliner, as well as Riesling and small batches of Sauvignon Blanc. Crops were grown both in the lowland area (the Danube basin) and on steep terraces located at higher elevations, on slopes reaching 300 m above sea level.p.m.
The wine comes from a single vineyard Liebenberg located on steep terraces near Dürnstein, where the bedrock consists primarily of paragneiss with amphibolite inclusions, and the soils are thin, stony, and well-drained. The producer's sources emphasize that the Veltliner from this vineyard is characterized by distinct minerality and spiciness, with a subtle hint of salt in the finish. Winemakers F. X. The Pichlers classify Liebenberg as a vineyard with a strong sense of terroir, where the elevation of the vines, the southwest-facing slope, and the stony soil contribute to the wine’s intensity and elegance.
