Product description
Christian Drouin Springbank Cask Finish 19-Year-Old Calvados is a unique, limited-edition release from the highly regarded Expérimental series , in which the famous Norman distillery Christian Drouin explores the influence of casks that once held the world’s most renowned spirits on the maturation of calvados. In this edition, the nearly 20-year-old apple spirit was finished in barrels that previously held Springbank Scotch whiskey , from one of the most highly regarded distilleries in the Campbeltown region. The result is an exceptionally complex spirit that combines the freshness of fruit with the elegance of oak and the subtle notes characteristic of whiskey aged along the Scottish coast.
This edition is based on a 19-year-old calvados— —aged in traditional oak barrels, which then gained additional depth during its finish in ex-Springbank barrels. This combination gives the drink a unique profile, in which juicy apples and pears blend with notes of malt, a hint of smoke, spices, and mineral freshness.Bottled at 50.4% ABV , , without unduly altering the natural character of the distillate, offers a full range of aromas and an intense tasting experience.
The aroma is dominated by ripe apples, baked pears, and the freshness of cider, enriched with notes of vanilla, caramel, and honey.Over time, subtle notes of malt, roasted nuts, citrus peel, a hint of smoke, and spices emerge, resulting from the aging in Springbank whiskey barrels..
On the palate, Calvados is rich, velvety, and complex.Fruity sweetness intertwines with notes of dried apples, caramel, toffee, and roasted almonds, accompanied by hints of oak, pepper, nutmeg, as well as a light, salty minerality and a subtle peaty nuance characteristic of Springbank casks. The perfect balance between fruitiness and oak influences means that every sip reveals new layers of flavor.
The finish is very long, elegant, and warming.Notes of baked apples, vanilla, spices, oak, and a hint of smoke linger on the palate, leaving an exceptionally refined and harmonious finish.
Christian Drouin Springbank Cask Finish 19-Year-Old is a choice for connoisseurs seeking unusual flavor combinations and collectors of limited editions. It is a perfect example of how the worlds of French calvados and Scotch whiskey can complement each other, creating a spirit with extraordinary depth and character. It tastes best when enjoyed on its own, in a tulip-shaped glass, where it reveals new nuances of its rich aroma with every passing moment.
