Product description
Family Masi is one of the most recognizable names in the Valpolicella region of northern Italy. The producer's history dates back to the 18th century, when the Boscaini family began cultivating vines in the Valpolicella Valley, near Verona. The name "Masi" comes from the small farms called vaio dei masi, which were located in this part of the valley. It was there that the first vineyards were established, which in time became the foundation of one of the most renowned producers of Amarone.
For generations, the family has developed its production philosophy based on tradition and precision. A special role was played by the ability to apply the method appassimento, i.e. natural drying of grapes before fermentation. This process gives the wines an extraordinary concentration of aromas and structure, which over time has become a hallmark of the Masi house.
One of the producer's most important plots is actually a vineyard Costasera, from which this wine takes its name. Its name means "slope of the evening sun". The vineyards are located on the western slopes of the Valpolicella Classica hills, where the vines benefit from the warm afternoon light for a long time. This exposure ensures ideal ripening of the fruit, while the cool air flowing down from the mountains maintains the balance of acidity and aroma.
Costasera vineyards are known for their ideal conditions for the method appassimento - after harvesting, the grapes are dried for about three months, which loses some of the water and concentrates the sugars, flavors and extract. This gives the wine its characteristic depth and high alcohol content.
Masi has been recognized for years as one of the greatest specialists in this production technique. The manufacturer even puts a special mark on the labels to prove experience in the appassimento method.
Masi Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2020 is a classic Amarone made from the traditional varietals of the region: Corvina (approx. 70%), Rondinella (approx. 25%) and Molinar (approx. 5%).
After fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 24 months in Slovenian oak barrels and partially in French oak barriques, which gives it structure, elegance and spice and coffee notes.
Appearance: deep, intense ruby color with dark reflections, indicating high concentration and extraction.
Aroma: a rich and multilayered bouquet with notes of dried cherry, ripe plum and red fruit jam, intertwined with accents of cocoa, coffee, spices, tobacco and subtle licorice.
Taste: full, dense and powerful wine with great tannin structure. Flavors of cherries and dried fruits dominate, complemented by notes of chocolate, coffee and spices. The wine is both rich and elegant, with a long, silky finish.
Culinary Connections: goes well with red meats, game, lamb, roast duck and dishes with intense flavors. It also pairs perfectly with long-matured cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino or Gorgonzola.
