In the 1970s, when Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella decided to combine their passion for the land with the courage to create unique wines that transcend local boundaries and tell the story of Sicily's unique terroir. Today, the company is run by sons José and Antonio and continues this mission, nurturing tradition and experimenting with new wine concepts, with respect for nature and the region.
Cuordilava is the fruit of a special collaboration between two icons of Italian style and quality - Donnafugata and fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. The project celebrates Sicilian culture through the lens of taste, color and symbols - the label and packaging refer to the motifs of traditional Sicilian carts, and the label is dominated by elements inspired by the red of the magma of Etna, making the wine not only taste rich, but also tell the story of the place where it comes from.
The vineyards that yield fertile grapes for Cuordilava are planted on the northern slopes of the Etna volcano, near Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, at an altitude of about 730-750 meters above sea level.p.m. It's a harsh yet picturesque landscape: the soils are sandy, rich in minerals and lava dust, which, together with the cooler altitude climate, creates ideal conditions for growing Nerello Mascalese grapes - an indigenous variety that best captures the character of this terroir. The harsh winters, hot weather and long-lasting volcanic soil give wines from this region exceptional minerality, freshness and elegance in texture - qualities that wines from Etna are so appreciated by wine lovers around the world.
Cuordilava Dolce & Gabbana Rosso DOC 2020 is a red wine with an appellation Etna Rosso DOC made from 100% grapes Nerello Mascalese - variety, which is the epitome of Etna's red wines and yields wines both elegant and full of character. This wine was matured more than a year in French oak barrels, and then by more than 2 years in the bottle before it hit the market - giving it smoothness, complexity and an elegant structure.
Critics also favor the assessment of this vintage label: Cuordilava 2020 earns high marks, including 93 points in Tannico's rating and solid ratings in other reviews (approx. 90-93 points from various critics), which confirms its quality and recognition in the world of oenology.
