Maison Hennessy was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer.His son James gave the company the name it still uses today: Jas Hennessy & Co..in 1813.
In 1971, Hennessy merged with Moët et Chandon to form Moët Hennessy, which in turn was acquired in 1987 by the luxury goods manufacturer Louis Vuitton, giving rise to LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy).Hennessy leads the cognac sales rankings with 7.8 million cases per year (2018), accounting for nearly 40% of the sector's total sales.In 1865, Maurice Hennessy created a classification system for cognacs.Over time, Hennessy 3 Star was renamed Hennessy V.S.and to this day remains the world's most popular cognac.This is a blend of about 40.eaux-de-vie aged in Limousin oak barrels for 2.5 to 5 years.
