Château L’Évangile is one of the most prestigious estates in the Pomerol appellation, located on the right bank of the Gironde, in the heart of the Bordeaux region.The history of this vineyard dates back to the early 19th century, when the Léglise family—pioneers of winemaking in Pomerol—began planting vines in the local fields.In 1862, the Ducasse family took over the estate and named it Château L’Évangile, a name that to this day is associated with elegance, finesse, and the extraordinary harmony of its wines.In the 20th century, the estate came under the ownership of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), which introduced modern winemaking techniques and an even greater focus on the terroir.
The vineyard covers approximately 22 hectares and is located on the exceptional terroir of Pomerol — the soils here consist of a mixture of gravel, clay, and sand, and some parcels also contain the famous iron-rich clay, which gives the wines depth and a distinctive structure.The dominant grape variety is Merlot, which gives the wines their softness and velvety texture, while Cabernet Franc makes up a smaller portion, contributing elegance, freshness, and spicy notes.
Blason de L’Évangile is the estate’s second wine, created to showcase the château’s style in a more accessible and approachable way.It is made from younger vines, but it is produced with the same care as the first wine.The 2019 vintage in Pomerol was exceptionally successful—warm, yet with a perfect balance between fruit ripeness and freshness, resulting in wines that are expressive and distinctive, yet refined.
