Product description
Château Palmer is one of the most legendary estates in Bordeaux, located in the heart of the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Gironde. The history of this vineyard dates back to the early 19th century, when the estate belonged to the Gascq family. In 1814, it passed into the hands of Scottish General Charles Palmer, from whose surname the estate derives its current name.Upon returning from the Napoleonic Wars, the general fell in love with the region and invested his fortune in developing the vineyard, endowing it with a prestige and character that remain synonymous with excellence to this day.Although the years that followed were more difficult and the estate changed hands several times, it was during Palmer’s time that its rise to greatness began.
Today, Château Palmer is managed by a team that treats the terroir and tradition with the utmost respect, while remaining open to modern viticultural methods. The vineyards cover approximately 66 hectares and are situated on the gravelly soils characteristic of Margaux, mixed with clay and sand, which lend the wines great elegance and finesse. This terroir is particularly well-suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, which create extraordinary blends..The winery is also renowned for its biodynamic farming practices, which it adopted many years ago, believing that the natural rhythm of the earth and vegetation allows the character of the terroir to be better expressed.
Palmer's Alter Ego was created in 1998 as the estate's second wine, but it immediately established its own identity. This is not a classic “second wine” in the Bordeaux sense, but rather the winery’s own interpretation—focused on a more approachable, fruity, and expressive character that allows the wine to be enjoyed while still young, without having to wait for many years. The 2020 vintage is one of Alter Ego's most intriguing releases, combining the freshness of the fruit with depth and aging potential.
