The Château d’Yquem vineyard is located in the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux region, on the southern edge of the Graves wine region.Its history dates back centuries—the estate was already known in the Middle Ages, and in 1593 it was acquired by Jacques de Sauvage.In later years, in 1785, through the marriage of Françoise-Joséphine de Sauvage d’Yquem to Count Louis-Amédée de Lur-Saluces, the vineyard passed into the hands of the de Lur-Saluces family, who over the following decades built up the estate’s reputation.
The vineyard covers approximately 100–126 hectares (depending on the source) in the Sauternes appellation, not all of which are used every year—some are left fallow, while carefully selected vineyards are used to produce the flagship wine.
The uniqueness of Château d’Yquem stems from its soil, microclimate, and rigorous selection process: clay-karst soils and the presence of rivers such as the Ciron and the Garonne promote the growth of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which gives Sauternes sweet wines their characteristic concentration and flavor.
In 1855, in the classification for the Bordeaux region, Château d’Yquem received a special distinction—it was the only wine in Sauternes/Tartars (including Barsac) to be classified as Premier Cru Supérieur.
Over the years, the estate has become a symbol of the highest quality and luxury in the world of wine.In the 1990s.20th century.The majority of the shares were acquired by the LVMH conglomerate, which brought in new capital and a new strategy, although the company’s tradition remained very much alive.
One interesting fact is that, in poorer vintages, the entire harvest would sometimes be set aside and sold anonymously if it did not meet standards—this is how Château d’Yquem maintained its quality standards.

Appearance: a deep golden color with amber highlights, brilliant and dense, leaving long tears on the glass.
Aroma: intense notes of apricot jam, quince, acacia honey, and candied orange, with a delicate hint of white flowers, vanilla, and beeswax.
Taste: silky and rich, full of dried fruit, honey, and caramel, balanced by fresh acidity and a hint of minerality; a long-lasting, harmonious finish with a hint of citrus bitterness.
