Product description

The Domaine de Chevalier is said to be a “secret garden” hidden in a clearing in the middle of the Léognan forest. This canopy of trees is more than just picturesque—it creates its own peaceful microclimate, which has been ideal for the estate’s white and red wines for decades. The winery was founded in the 18th century and—unusually for Bordeaux—has always been known as a “Domaine” rather than a “Château.”.In the Graves classification from 1953–1959.It received awards for both its red and white wines. In 1983, the Bernard family purchased the estate and entrusted its management to the then-young Olivier Bernard, who began a long-term modernization and expansion of the vineyards and cellars.Today, Domaine de Chevalier is considered one of the most reliable sources of great, dry white wines from Pessac-Léognan.

The vineyard landscape here is unusual for the left bank: it consists of a single, compact “block” of plots surrounded by forest, with gravelly-sandy soils dotted with flint and quartz. The white grape varieties are primarily Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon—a pairing that gives Chevalier’s wines their brightness, tension, and a slightly smoky, mineral character. This forest cocoon acts as a natural shield against extreme weather, which has been crucial in recent, warmer years.

The estate’s second wine, L’Esprit de Chevalier, was created in 1989 as a distinct expression of the estate’s selection: it is made primarily from younger vines and lots that did not make it into the Grand Vin, yet perfectly capture the estate’s style—purity, finesse, and a mineral edge.As a result, it tends to be more approachable in its youth, without losing its noble pedigree.

The 2022 vintage of L’Esprit de Chevalier Blanc is exceptionally well-made and perfectly captures the character of the terroir..The white varieties were harvested very early—between August 22 and September 1—which helped preserve their freshness despite the hot summer. The wine is made from a classic blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, and has an alcohol content of about 14.5% by volume. The producer's style involves barrel aging on the lees.

Appearance: The wine has a bright, lustrous, straw-gold color with slightly greenish highlights that emphasize its youth and vitality.

Aroma: intense citrus notes—grapefruit and lime—are detectable, intertwined with aromas of white flowers, jasmine, and acacia, as well as hints of tropical fruits such as passion fruit and pineapple.A gentle touch of oak adds notes of vanilla and a subtle toasty flavor.

Taste: the palate is vibrant, fresh, juicy, and mineral-driven.An elegant structure unfolds on the palate, where crisp acidity meets a creamy texture, giving the wine balance and a long, citrusy-mineral finish.

Food pairings: It pairs perfectly with seafood—oysters, scallops, and lobster—as well as with delicate fish served in lemon or butter sauces. It pairs perfectly with Mediterranean cuisine, vegetable risotto, grilled chicken with herbs, or aged goat and sheep cheeses.
