Product description
The Antinori family is a name that has achieved almost mythical status in the world of wine.Since 1385—that is, for over six hundred years—successive generations of the Marchesi Antinori have been cultivating grapes and producing wine.Today, the company is led by 26 people.generation, and the Antinoris are considered among the architects of the “Super-Tuscan” revolution—wines that, in the 1970s.In the 20th century, they rejected the classification systems of Chianti Classico and showed the world a modern, ambitious side of Tuscany.
Solaia is produced in the heart of the Tenuta Tignanello estate, located between the Greve and Pesa valleys, right in the center of the Chianti Classico appellation. The entire estate covers 319 hectares, about half of which is planted with vineyards. It is here, on a steep slope with limestone-and-shale soil (known as “alberese” and “galestro”), that Antinori’s two most famous vineyards are located—Tignanello and Solaia. The Solaia vineyard itself covers about 20 hectares, and thanks to its southwest exposure, it is bathed in sunlight for most of the day—which is where its name comes from: “the sunny one.”.
The first vintage of this wine was produced in 1978.Unlike Tignanello, which is based on Sangiovese with the addition of Cabernet varieties, Solaia is the reverse of that concept: it is Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and a hint of the Tuscan spirit in the form of Sangiovese. The wine is produced only in the best vintages—there are years when Solaia does not reach the market at all, which only enhances its prestige. It gained international fame when the 1997 vintage was named “Wine of the Year” by *Wine Spectator*.
Solaia 2015 This exceptionally harmonious and full-bodied wine, considered one of the best vintages of this iconic wine, is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with additions of Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. It delights with its richness of ripe fruit, velvety texture, and remarkable balance of power and elegance, making it a perfect example of a Super Tuscan..
Appearance: The 2015 Solaia displays a deep, intense ruby color with garnet reflections, indicative of high concentration and ripe fruit. The wine has a dense, full-bodied structure that is visible in the glass.
Aroma: The bouquet is rich with ripe notes of black currant, blackberry, and cherry, balanced by aromas of violets and dried flowers.Over time, notes of dark chocolate, licorice, tobacco, and subtle cedar emerge.
Taste: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet elegant—with velvety tannins, juicy fruit, and superb freshness. An exceptionally long, multi-layered finish, with a balance of power and finesse characteristic of the finest vintages.
Food Pairings: It pairs perfectly with roast lamb, beef tenderloin steaks, and venison served with rich sauces. It also pairs perfectly with long-aged cheeses, such as Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano-Reggiano.
