Product description
The Michele Chiarlo Winery is a family-owned estate founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo in Monferrato.Today, the second generation—brothers Stefano and Alberto—is at the helm, but the spirit of the estate remains the same: elegance, balance, and a commitment to Piedmont’s grape varieties (Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cortese, Moscato).Over time, the family acquired vineyards in the most prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco crus, in the Nizza area, and in Gavi, developing a style based on precision and longevity.Their philosophy is “discipline in the vineyard and in the cellar”—the utmost care for the vineyard and the purity of the terroir’s expression.Palás Cerequio in La Morra has become a symbol of the house’s ambition—a historic estate and boutique relais nestled among Nebbiolo vines, where great vintages from Langhe producers age in the cellar.
Barbaresco Faset is one of the “MGA” (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive)—strictly defined crus within the municipality of Barbaresco.Sam Faset is a steep southern slope whose western face opens onto the Tanaro River; the Chiarlo parcel is part of an approximately 3-hectare vineyard within Cascina Cabanet. This landscape is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the geology of the Langhe (Tortonian-era calcareous marls) gives Nebbiolo an aristocratic, rose-like character with subtle minerality. In the 20th century, the entire town of Faset belonged to the Cocito family of Neive, who held the title of count; today it is divided among several owners.
Michele Chiarlo’s “Barbaresco DOCG Faset” wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo and aged for at least two years—including about 18 months in large barrels (botti)—and is usually bottled with an alcohol content of about 14%.The producer's style emphasizes the finesse of the tannins and the clarity of the aroma: dried rose petals, delicate red berries, subtle spices, and an elegant, mineral undertone.
Appearance: a ruby-and-navy-blue wine with a translucent rim; a youthful sheen and moderate body in the glass.
Aroma: dried rose and violet, small red fruits (cherry, red currant), transitioning into darker plum and blackberry; plus a delicate minerality, anise, cinnamon, clove, and bay leaf.
Taste: a lean, taut, and very elegant structure; the acidity carries the sip, with fine-grained tannins that are still young but refined; a long finish, with notes of roses, red fruit, and spices.(Aging for about 18 months in large barrels enhances the wine's finesse without masking the fruit).)
Culinary pairings: Langhe classics—tajarin with butter and truffles, risotto with porcini mushrooms, roasted game (pheasant), lamb with rosemary, aged cow’s- and sheep’s-milk cheeses (e.g., Castelmagno). He also sticks to modern Polish cuisine: guinea fowl with roasted beets and juniper, zander in a roasted bell pepper sauce with herbs, and even dumplings with goose meat and marjoram.
