Product description
E. Guigal is a family-owned winery founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis, in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. After his son Marcel Guigal took over as CEO in 1961., The company began to rapidly expand its presence by purchasing neighboring vineyards and stepping up its operations at the vineyard. The third generation is represented by Philippe Guigal, who serves as the winemaker and carries on the family’s winemaking traditions. The winery focuses on the prestigious appellations of the Rhône Valley — m.in.Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, or Châteauneuf-du-Pape—and works on very challenging, often terraced slopes. In 2003, Guigal opened his own barrel-making workshop (tonnellerie) at Château d’Ampuis, which allowed him to control the wine’s aging process in oak even more effectively. The winery is known for its rigorous approach: its finest wines are aged exclusively in new oak barrels for up to four years before bottling. Thanks to many years of hard work and expansion through the acquisition of other estates, Guigal has grown into one of the leading wine producers in both the northern and southern parts of the Rhône Valley.
E.Guigal Tavel 2021 is a rosé wine from the southern Rhône Valley, made from a blend of grape varieties dominated by Grenache, complemented by m.in.made from Cinsault, Clairette, and Syrah. The grapes ripen in clay-and-gravel soils, and the wine is produced using a short maceration process; it is then fermented and aged for six months in stainless steel tanks. The result is a rosé with an intense salmon hue, an elegant floral and fruity aroma, fresh acidity, and a fuller body than a typical rosé.The producer recommends serving at a temperature of 12–14 °C and consuming within three years of harvest.
